We were delighted to host Dr. Risa Brooks of Marquette University in February 2025 for a guest lecture on issues in civil-military relations as part of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences Bernardin Haskell Lecture Series.
Dr. Brooks is a fellow in the Future Security program at New America and a Non-Resident Senior Associate in the International Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
Dr. Brooks has written and spoken extensively in both academic and public-facing outlets about civil-military relations in democracies, the Trump and Biden administration’s relationships with military leadership, politicization of the military, weakening norms of civilian control of the military in the United States and other democracies, and threats to democracy.
