Figurative Language in Daily Life

June 17, 2026

This project investigates the use of figurative language in daily life. Using archival data from four studies that employed the Electronically Activated Recorder (EAR), the project aims at identifying common forms of figurative language, including metaphor, irony, idioms, hyperbole/understatement, euphemisms/dysphemisms, personifications, and more in naturalistic recordings of everyday speech.
