Women & Conflict (Pol-Sci 371)

Semester: N/A
Year offered:

Catalog Description

Students will explore the roles of women in armed political conflict; specifically the ways that women influence and participate in conflict and peace processes as well as the ways women are affected by conflict and peace processes.

What to expect

This course brings a gender lens to armed conflict, analyzing gender roles in armed forces, militias and terrorist groups and how they have changed (or not) over time. Students will debate the gendered expectations of victimhood and sexual violence and assess their implications. Students will also apply an intersectional approach to identifying the interests and perspectives of parties to a conflict and evaluate how those interests are articulated and which voices are heard and discussed.
