Ms. Kishani Kandasamy
Kishani Kandasamy is a Master’s student in Computer Science who started her studies in Spring 2026 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). She holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Computer Science from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.
Her primary research interests lie at the intersection of Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and Medical Image Processing. During her undergraduate studies at the University of Jaffna, she conducted research on facial expression recognition using deep convolutional neural networks. Her work investigated the impact of varying residual block depths and evaluated multiple ResNet based model configurations.
Kishani has hands-on industry experience as a Machine Learning and QA Engineer at H2O.ai from August 2022 to September 2024, following her role as a Machine Learning Engineer Intern. In these roles, she contributed to Machine Learning model development and AI research, implemented state-of-the-art methods, and supported the release management process for machine learning products. She also performed web test automation and trained teams to automate testing workflows for ML systems.
In addition to her academic and industry experience, Kishani was involved in open-source communities. She participated in the Summer 2021 Open Source Promotion Plan with the Institute of Software, Chinese Academy of Sciences, OpenEuler Community, and Nanjing Institute of Software Technology, where she was recognized for outstanding contributions to Apache APISIX documentation and website usability. She also served as a Volunteer Open Source Student Contributor with the Apache Software Foundation, contributing to Apache APISIX website development, documentation improvements, core features, and dashboard UI/UX enhancements.
