About Dr. Sarah E. Patel

Sarah Patel, PhD, RN, C-EFM is an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, School of Nursing and Health Studies. She joined the university in 2022. She enjoys teaching graduate and undergraduate students. Her research focuses on nursing interventions and management of chronic pelvic pain in women.

Dr. Patel received her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in July 2021. Her dissertation was on the relationship of incivility on the sense of belonging in undergraduate nursing students to the nursing profession and community. She earned her Master of Science in Nursing, with a concentration in Education, from Grand Canyon University, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UNM, and her Associate of Science in Nursing from Johnson County Community College.

Dr. Patel served as the New Mexico Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Health (AWHONN) section chair. In 2017, she was chosen as one of 10 individuals to represent AWHONN as an Emerging Leader. Since that experience, Sarah has assisted in revising the AWHONN Scope and Standards of Practice.
