What you need to know...
- The Center of Excellence in AI-Empowered Spatial computing will provide entry- and second-level spatial computing classes for students.
- Prerequisite knowledge of computing programming logic and functioning is required for these classes.
- The classes will be taught using a collaborative instructional model involving faculty from partner institutions.
- Progress toward mastery will be evaluated through frequent formative evaluations.
- The classes serve as a micro-credential that students will take into their internship.
- The Center will cover the costs associated with the for-credit classes, instructional support, and site personnel serving as advisors/mentors.
- Planning for an effective internship program requires workplace readiness training, monitoring, and appropriate compensation.
- The Center will provide partner institutions with materials for resume and cover letter development, job expectations, and guidelines for workplace exposure.
- Partner institutions may conduct training sessions using their own campus student services staff.
- Periodic check-in sessions will be conducted by Center personnel to discuss internships and address issues.
- Workforce payment will be provided to students and the internship sites.
- Effective internships should include a dedicated company employee contact, meaningful work participation, and specific performance feedback.
- Each site must document the presence of these elements for each student during their internship.
- Advisor/mentor meetings will be held periodically to provide support.
- Additional needs of students may include funding for housing, transportation, software/hardware upgrades, and learning materials.
