The Center of Excellence in AI-Empowered Spatial Computing provides second-level spatial computing courses for students interested in a career in AI-Empowered Technologies.

After the completion of the coursework, students will earn a micro-credential and have the opportunity for a paid internship with one of our industry partners.

Program Details

  • Prerequisite knowledge of computing programming logic and functioning is required for these classes.
  • The classes will be taught using a collaborative instructional model involving faculty from partner institutions.
  • Progress toward mastery will be evaluated through frequent formative evaluations.
  • The classes serve as a micro-credential that students will take into their internship.
  • The Center will cover the costs associated with the for-credit classes, instructional support, and site personnel serving as advisors/mentors.
  • Planning for an effective internship program requires workplace readiness training, monitoring, and appropriate compensation.
  • The Center will provide partner institutions with materials for resume and cover letter development, job expectations, and guidelines for workplace exposure.
  • Partner institutions may conduct training sessions using their own campus student services staff.
  • Periodic check-in sessions will be conducted by Center personnel to discuss internships and address issues.
  • Workforce payment will be provided to students and the internship sites.
  • Effective internships should include a dedicated company employee contact, meaningful work participation, and specific performance feedback.
  • Each site must document the presence of these elements for each student during their internship.
  • Advisor/mentor meetings will be held periodically to provide support.
  • Additional needs of students may include funding for housing, transportation, software/hardware upgrades, and learning materials.

Program Eligibility 

- Full-time Junior or Senior enrolled at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Missouri-Columbia, or Harris-Stowe State University. 

- U.S. Citizen, National, or lawfully permanent resident.

- Belong to an underrepresented population.
