River Processes

3D flow around a model boulder

We study a range of flow and sediment transport processes in sand- and gravel-bed streams to help inform river engineering and management efforts.

River-Ecosystem Interactions

Live freshwater mussel in the flume

We are studying interactions between freshwater mussels and the flow and sediment conditions at the riverbed to aid environmental flow and habitat assessments.

Microplastic Fate & Transport

Floating microplastics

We are investigating microplastic (MP) transport in the environment to improve process understanding and to improve modeling approaches.

Water and Environment Research

The Environmental Flow & Transport Processes Lab advances understanding of river and environmental flow characteristics, sediment transport processes, river-ecosystem interactions, and contaminant fate and transport in the environment. We use state-of-the-art measurement techniques to improve designs for hydraulic infrastructure and approaches to natural resource management.
